Hyakko - 01

Basically, four completely different girls whose only similarity is an intense lack in sense of direction. Since the shortest between two points is a straight line, that’s what they work with - and that means jumping out of windows, breaking into buildings, etc.
Summary: Nonomura Ayumi, a very shy girl, is attending her first day in a large private school. Because she forgot something in their first classroom, she stays behind and her other classmates go ahead to the next room. She gets lost and wanders around, until she finds Iizuka Tatsui. Iizuka says that she’s been in that school for years now, so she knows where the classroom is. Nonomura follows her, but after a while, realizes that she’s also lost.
While walking around, a blond girl suddenly jumps out a window. Initially, she thinks she broke her ankle, but it was just a dud. Another girl jumps out the window after her. The blonde girl introduces herself as Kageyama Torako, and the smaller girl’s name is Saotome Suzume - Suzu for short. Torako says that they were also lost, and after discussing it, decided to just ‘go straight’. Iizuka and Nonomura follow them around. That meant climbing a fence, going through a grade school class, etc.
Iizuka and Torako after a while, because they both have very different perspectives. Iizuka doesn’t agree with Torako’s ’senseless’ idea of just going forward. Nonomura remembers about the GPRS system, and while that helps for a while, which makes Nonomura happy. They ‘go forward’ again, but a huge building with a locked door is in the way. Torako breaks the window, but a man sees them, whom Torako punches unconscious. That man happened to be their teacher, who scolds the four of them afterwards. By the end of the episode, the four of them walk away from the teacher’s office.
Cast:
Nonomura Ayumi - Hirano Aya (Death Note: Misa, Lucky Star: Konata, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: Haruhi)
Kageyama Torako - Orikasa Fumiko (Bleach: Rukia)
Iizuka Tatsui - Neya Michiko (Tales of the Abyss - Natalia)
Saotome Suzume - Ochiai Yurika (Not too much roles so far.)

Impressions: Okay, I hated the first few minutes of this episode. Mainly because it was just Nonomura talking… as much as I liked Hirano Aya as Haruhi, the voice she had(?) to use here was just annoying. It was high and it just seemed a bit too forced. I’m not much into Nonomura and Iizuka’s character, because they don’t have anything new to them. Suzu’s alright, but Torako just really caught my interest. She’s the optimistic, and literally the ‘just go forward’ kind of girl who doesn’t care about consequences. That means beating up strangers and putting on a ‘whatever’ face when being yelled at by a teacher.
The animation could have been better. The character designs are blah okay, but on some frames, it’s like the animators got… err, lazy. The music was okay. I thought the background music they played when Torako jumped out the window was pretty cool.
I’m not sure if I’m going to keep up with this show, because it looks like a very generic slice-of-life show. While I admit that Torako certainly made it interesting, I doubt that’s going to keep me going for a whole season… blah. Maybe I’ll just watch the next episode, and if I still don’t find it that worth it, then goodbye.
