Soul Eater - 28

I haven’t read the manga so I have no idea, but… is this a filler episode? In my opinion, it was probably one of the most dragging episodes of Soul Eater I’ve ever watched. It’s right beside the Excalibur episodes which I swear was boring. Even though I actually thought Black Star’s fight was pretty cool, it just didn’t feel too important. And please tell me Mifune will play a bigger role in the future, or else this episode did nothing but portray him as a pedophile.

I was kind of surprised to see how furiously Black Star reacted when he heard he could take ‘revenge’ against those people who hurt Maka. I’m sure he cares for Maka and all, but I can’t help but feel it was so out of character for him. While it was sweet, I really wish the writers could have done a better job? Besides, wouldn’t Tsubaki usually try to talk him out of it? It’s just that he’s usually portrayed as a goofy character, and while we all know he has a serious side - the change in this episode was too abrupt to the point that it was kind of unrealistic.
Still, like I said, the fight was good (as long as you try to forget why they’re actually fighting?). The music was pretty cool at times, and Black Star’s gone a long way because he actually looks awesome now.

THAAANK YOU for pointing out how out of character that was for him. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but you got it.
I must say that Mifune kicks ass and I want to see more of him and Angela is totally adorable.

No, this wasn’t a filler episode. So far, the anime has copied the manga almost to a T.

Jleeson:
Thanks. I’m happy to see someone actually agrees with me, because nobody else seems to be bothered, hahaha.
Skittles Bunny:
Ah, really? Thanks. I just wish they writers could do something about it, then. Maybe improve the dialogue.

I agree about the character portrayal, but i don’t think the episode was boring in any way. Still Black Star’s sudden care for Maka, the only person he has shown exceptional care for so far is Tsubaki… I was also thrown by Mifune’s soul. Making him such a powerful character after our first (almost embarrassing) impression of him is also a bit sudden. I think this episode must be necessary in order to set up the character development for the future, I won’t read the manga since the anime is keeping in step and is animated so well so far. Does anyone know the song playing during Black Star’s fight? Probably the next theme song?

Tom:
I guess I just found it dragging because I was really looking forward to another story arc, but I think it’ll be a while before that happens. I’ve got no idea what the title of the song was, but I also want to find out because it was really nice.
I’m glad we agree on the character portrayal.

I think you guys forgot that in Ep 25 he gave being Captain of the basket ball team Maka and he was on to Maka. To B*S being number one is a big deal so giving up the spotlight to another person is he’d never do unless he liked the person.

Iron Maw:
I don’t know, that was just being captain. Besides, he didn’t look like he wanted to win much in the first place - all of them seemed like they were ganging up on Maka to make her go out with her dad. :p

Iron Maw: The anime conveyed that in a comical way though, in no way serious. He made Maka the captain to avoid the punishment should they lose. Does Black Star really like Maka??? Without spoilers from the manga can we have opinions.
Until the recent ep i would have said no way..(he’s got Tsubaki after all) but maybe this is a serious development, it certainly would give Black Star’s character more actual meaning in the story. I hate the fact the anime is named after Soul….Black Star is a much better character than the gray haired Emo kid…. Naruto suffered from this as well, I call it “Making-your-main-character-lame Syndrome” Rock lee, Sasuke, Shikimaru , just a few of the anime’s awesome characters whereas Naruto annoys the hell out of me everyday. Is there some weird anime reason i don’t know about why creators keep doing this? Or do I have a particular taste in character?

Ugh, the word pedophile’s a bit strong, he’s obviously very fond of kids, yeah. Even if it did stray into some kind of romantic interest it doesn’t mean it’s so much as to be any kind of obsession or anything. He reacts the same way to cats, and he compliments Tsubaki and won’t cut Blair’s bare behind or anything, eh?
Plus this definately did a lot more for him than simply that, it’s some great character development. Totally GAR kinda UBW moment.

I‘m sure many of you are like me and one of the first things you do in the morning is head here and check out the new post. Along with seeing the new posts, I’m also always checking out the blog roll rss feed and watching them grow, or shrink sometimes. In one of my past …but all in all excellent site. Keep it up!
